Acknowledgement: A notarial act that ensures that the signer of the document is indeed the person named in the document and certificate, as well as is signing under one's own free will.

Purpose of the Acknowledgement is for a signer, whose identity has been verified, to declare to a Notary or Notarial Officer that he or she willingly signed the document.

California Civil Code Section 1189(a) requires the mandatory wording for all acknowledgements in the state of CA, whether the acknowledger is signing as an individual or a representative (partner, corporate officer, attorney in fact, trustee, etc.).
